Night and day. Light and darkness. The crack of dawn or the moment the sun sets at the horizon. Since the rise of time the perpetual cycle of the sun and moon has ruled our lives and this pair of limited edition watches designed by Patrick Kim-Gustafson draw their inspiration from these contrasts.
The PKG01 (named after its designer) is an elegant modern interpretation of the classic mens wristwatch. At 38mm in diameter and a thickness of only 7mm, the size is ‘just right’. As with all well executed minimal designs, the devil is in the details. The different surface finishes of the case and the subtle detailing take this timepiece beyond your average wristwatch.
The PKG01-AM (Ante Meridiem or ‘Before Noon’) is a limited edition produced in 150 individually numbered watches. It has a luminescent, custom designed cream coloured dial with a golden rising sun, a limited edition engraving on the case back and a high quality, light brown Italian leather strap with a discrete AM/PM embossing on the back. This classic gold and brown watch is made for those who cherish the brighter part of the day.
The PKG01-PM (Post Meridiem or ‘After Noon’) is also limited to 150 individually numbered watches. It has a matte black luminescent, slightly structured dial with a setting sun. The shiny black hands provide enough contrast to be clearly visible in daylight but become diffuse once the sun sets. For the night dweller, time becomes less important.
The PKG01-PM also comes with a limited edition engraving on the case back and a high quality, black Italian leather strap with a discrete AM/PM embossing on the back. This blacked out, slightly impractical watch is made for those who cherish the darker part of the day.
The less philosophical and more rational observer could of course also argue that the opposite holds true. A white dial definitely offers more practical advantages to the midnight wanderer. We will let you make your own decision.
